We are excited to announce that Vladimir Ivaneanu of Mokuhanga Magic has curated an exhibition of authentic Japanese prints (ca. 1870–1970) from his personal collection.
Josei – Japanese Woodblock Prints is now on display at The Bries Space in Antwerpen, running from March 21 until May 3, 2026.
The exhibition explores how women were portrayed in ukiyo-e and shin hanga — from the traditional bijin (beautiful woman) to the modern, independent working woman.
Prints by artists including Kunisada, Kunichika, Chikanobu, Ginko, Eisen, Sanzo, Kotondo and Tatsumi are on display.
Live Demonstration — April 5th
Soetkin and Vladimir will be giving a live carving and printing demonstration at The Bries Space on April 5th, 2026. Come and see the mokuhanga technique up close — from carving the woodblock to applying ink with brushes and printing by hand with a baren.
Come and discover the magic of Japanese woodblock printing!
