Manga. Tout un art !
This major exhibition explores the rich history of manga, tracing its origins from ancient Japanese artistic traditions to the global phenomenon it is today. The exhibition showcases original manga plates and magazines alongside historical graphic works from the museum’s own collections.
From Hokusai to Modern Manga
A significant portion of the exhibition is dedicated to the masters of the 18th and 19th centuries, such as Hokusai, Kyosai, and Utamaro. It highlights the graphic techniques and narrative styles of ukiyo-e that laid the groundwork for modern manga. Visitors can discover the roots of manga’s dynamic visual language in the work of these historical masters. An immersive experience centered around Hokusai’s “The Great Wave” will feature the original print and demonstrate its profound influence on artists worldwide.
